International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day is celebrated every year on 8th September. It is a day that reminds us of the value of education and literacy in our lives. Literacy means the ability to read, write, understand information and use knowledge effectively in everyday life.
International Literacy Day was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1966 to highlight the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and society. Education gives people the confidence and skills needed to build a better future. This year theme is "Literacy for people, planet and prosperity."
Literacy is not about learning to read and write. It helps people understand their rights and responsibilities, find better employment opportunities. Literate people can better understand information related to health, technology, finance and many other aspects of daily life.
Even today many people around the world still do not have access to quality education. Poverty, lack of schools, social inequalities, and other difficulties can prevent children and adults from becoming literate. Therefore governments, communities and individuals must work together to ensure that everyone gets an opportunity to learn.
Literacy is the foundation of a strong and developed society. When people are educated, they can contribute positively to their families, communities and country. Therefore we should encourage children and adults to learn and support the goal of education for all.
We should respect the power of knowledge and make every effort to spread awareness of literacy so that everyone can take the opportunities provided in the world.
Thank you.

क्या ख़ूब कहा है कि साक्षरता ही सशक्तता है। साक्षर होना सिर्फ पढ़ना-लिखना नहीं, अपने अधिकारों को पहचानना है।
