Let me start with a quick question –
Have you ever said, "Yes, yes, I'm listening!" while actually thinking about your lunch, your phone, or what you're going to do after school? – we've all done it!
In fact, teachers, I'm sure you can relate You explain something for 5 minutes & then ask, "Samajh mein aaya?" and the whole class says, "Yes, Ma'am!"
Then comes the real test: when teacher says, "Okay, so tell me what I just explained" & suddenly – complete silence! or the answer would be "sunai nai diya" bhot shor hai bahar.
This is the something we do every day but often don't do properly: Listening.

We often think hearing & listening are the same. But they aren't. Hearing means sound reaches our ear.
Listening means our brain pays attention, understands, remembers & responds. Few points are to be understood clearly like hearing can happen without trying & listening requires efforts. Listening shows respect & empathy.
For eg:
"Teacher bol rahe hain 'Open your books' & aur student ka brain bol raha hai 'Open Instagram'." Lastly,
Hearing says "I heard you"
Listening says "I understand you"
Empathy says: "I care about what you're saying."
